  • Family legacy is a complicated topic. Most of us have many things we are grateful for that have been passed on to us through our family. Family is a rich source of community. There are also many things worth exploring in family relationships like boundaries and enmeshment, no talk rules, and establishing mutual and reciprocal relationships. This talk explores elements of healthy and unhealthy family relationships and provides examples based on my life and my experience mentoring others.

  • What are the expectations of our youth? What are their challenges? What happens when they are in trouble with the law? What does the juvenile justice system offer and how can we participate to help our children? How does our current juvenile justice system underserve and even harm our children? These are some of the questions this talk explores to create a conversation with the audience. I will share my story and those of others as part of the conversation.

  • Few would disagree that guns are a problem in our nation, communities, and for our children. Many Americans want some kind of reform when it comes to the gun laws in our nation. In this talk you will get an understanding of what the impact of gun violence is based on statistics and real-life stories, what some of the laws are that are being put in place around the nation and how they they are making a difference, and how everybody can support changing our nation’s gun culture.

  • Why are there so few women in engineering? Longterm studies show that 30% of engineering graduates are women, yet half that number stay in the engineering workforce. Why do women leave engineering? Why is there a dismal number of engineers compared with doctors or lawyers?. There are cultural issues associated with why women are not staying in engineering. The engineering culture is a male culture and there are many aspects of that culture that are unwelcoming and discouraging to women. This talk will explore aspects of the engineering culture and its effect on women engineers.
